You + Your Kids + Good News

Every church wants to be family-friendly. At Good News, we do too. We do so by recognizing that the best way for a child’s faith to grow is when the church and the family are working together. That’s why we want our children’s ministry to be “Homegrown.”

Our children’s ministry is built on the following principles:
  • The biggest spiritual influences in a child’s life will inevitably be his or her parents.
  • God asks parents to bring up their children “in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4), and he will equip them to do so.
  • Even from the earliest of ages, children are models of faith and valued members of our church.
  • Our worship format not only encourages families to be together, but is ideally suited for active engagement and participation by all—including children.
  • The sights and sounds of active children in our midst are a great joy to us and evidence that God is blessing our future even now.

Family Worship

9:00–10:00 a.m.

We love having families together in worship. If you’re a little nervous about your kids getting antsy or noisy, don’t be. They’ll be in good company! But we don’t just want kids in church with their parents. We want church to be a blessing to them and for them to be a blessing to us. Below you’ll find some of the ways we try to help with that. In the event that it’s still just one of those days, we also have a nursery available and plenty of helping hands eager to assist.

Good news they can grasp

We don’t just want kids in church with their parents. We want them growing in faith in the process. That’s why we have...
  • A children’s devotion in the service designed to help them learn from God’s Word.
  • Fill-in-the-blank note sheets that help children follow along with the sermon (and sermons that last no more than 20 minutes!).

More than sitting still

We don’t just want kids in church with their parents. We want them actively learning and sharing the good news with others. That’s why we have...
  • Simple, time-tested worship routines that your kids will learn to participate in, even before they can read.
  • Children’s bags that include books and learning activities connected to that day’s service.

Meaningful service

We don’t just want kids in church with their parents. We want them finding joy in serving others when they are. That’s why we have...
  • Weekly “Youth Service Assistants” who help with the various tasks that help the service run smoothly.
  • Year–round opportunities for kids to sing and play instruments in worship to help us proclaim the good news in song.

Sunday School

10:15–11:15 a.m.

Throughout the year, children age 3 through Grade 6 have an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Bible in Sunday School. During the school year, Sunday School starts with 15 minutes of music in the sanctuary. After that, children divide up by age group for a Bible lesson and various learning activities.

As kids move from one age level to the next, we celebrate these milestones at the end of each year with special recognition and a gift from their church family.

If you have a child that you would like to enroll in Sunday School, please let us know!

Your Child and Baptism

Baptism is a precious gift of God that the Holy Spirit uses to work faith in our hearts and deliver to us as individuals all that Jesus won for the whole world with his death on the cross. These incredible blessings given through baptism are offered by God to all, including young children (Acts 2:38,39).

Are you interested in baptism for you or your child? So are we! There are no fees or hoops to jump through. You don’t have to be a member of Good News or commit to becoming one. Get started by setting up an appointment to talk about baptism with our pastor.
