Why Are We Making Space?

God has greatly blessed Good News since we moved into our church building more than three years ago.

Consider the following:
  • In 2022, the year before the building was completed, we averaged about 90 people in worship each week.
  • Right now, we are averaging 170 people in worship each week.

The wonderful blessings God has graciously given us have made things a little tight on Sunday mornings—especially in our parking lot and our atrium.

Making Space...
...for More Good News

While numbers can summarize the way our congregation has grown, they do not tell the real story. Each one of those numbers represents a person who is staying connected to God’s good news—and the ministry of Good News—each week.

When we gather each week, our faith is fed through God’s Word and Sacraments. Each week we have the opportunity to encourage and be encouraged by the members of our church family.

So while this campaign is outwardly about making space for more people to park and more people to gather, it is ultimately about making space for more good news. It’s about enabling us to continue to carry out our mission of helping people find relief from life’s distressing noise by finding the Bible’s good news.

Current and future needs

As the numbers indicate—and as many people regularly experience—our current worship attendance already exceeds our current parking capacity. As we invest in expanding our parking capacity, we want to make sure we consider both our current and long-term needs.

Based on our sanctuary’s capacity, we envision needing to add a second Sunday morning service when our weekly attendance is averaging 200-225 people. That attendance range would require a parking capacity of 95-105 stalls. Certain days throughout the year like Christmas and Easter would require more.

Our plan is to expand our parking capacity from its current level (65 stalls + 4 handicap accessible stalls) to 117 stalls + 5 handicap accessible stalls.

New Parking Lot Details

  • Additional, 52-stall lot to the east of our current lot

Where Family Is Formed

In our increasingly isolated and polarized world, people are looking for connection. As a result, we want Good News to be more than just a friendly church. We want it to be a place where people can find family. An outdoor patio will provide valuable space where people can gather, relationships can grow, and family can be formed.

Our hope is that this patio will be a great outdoor space for things like…
  • Sunday morning fellowship
  • Outdoor seating at events where food is served
  • Small group and Bible study gatherings
  • Youth and teen events
  • Wedding receptions
  • Members’ family functions
  • Smaller community events

New Patio Details

  • 67’ x’ 34’ (approximate) concrete patio
  • Fire pit with seating area
  • Planters and flowerbeds
  • Outdoor lighting
